In recent years Zurich has developed into a dynamically expanding center for the life sciences industry. The first factor contributing to this growth was the decision of some well known international firms to locate their businesses in Zurich (including life science sales and marketing companies). The second factor stems from the creation of a growing number of spin-offs from the universities in the area (in the pharmacology, biotechnology and medical technology fields).
Even though the current contribution to value creation is less than 5%, the life sciences industry in Zurich is experiencing above-average growth.
