In fall 2001, the University of Zurich (UZH) and ETH Zurich initiated the project Life Science Zurich with a view to creating a stronger network for researchers in the field of the life sciences. Today Life Science Zurich encompasses five functional units. The business network is one of them.

Apart from the UZH and ETH Zurich, the University Hospital Zurich and ZHAW, the Zurich University of Applied Sciences are import academic institutions supporting the LSZ business network.
